What is the best product discovery tool ?

After being asked the question for the 143th times, I have decided to reveal publicly my go-to answer.

It may surprise you.

What is the best product discovery tool ? I have no idea. Because it doesn’t matter. The reason why you suck at product discovery is NOT because you didn’t choose the right time.

Wait a minute, no. It’s worse than that. The reason why you suck at product discovery is precisely because you secretly believe that, with the right tool, your discovery practice will magically improve.

Guess what? It won’t.

Your product discovery practice will improve because of, well, practice.

What kind of practice? Boring things like:

Framing an objective
Observing users
Crafting a pitch
Unfolding an end-to-end journey
Stealing ideas from other successful solutions
Executing perfectly the creation of a prototype
Deciding, with your gut, whether you are onto something worth shipping or not

Yes, some tools may be needed in the process. And some are better than others, of course. But none of them will remove the hard work that is required.

None.

There is no magic wand. Stop looking for it.
